Description

There are stone baulks outside each house numbered 7 to 20 and 25 to 36 on the north side of Long Row, dating from 1794 to 1797. Additionally, there are three stone baulks on the railway bridge between numbers 20 and 25, along with a stone kerb on the bridge itself. The stone baulks are small and square with rounded corners and concave tops. The stone kerb in front of the railway bridge preserves the line of the front garden kerbs. These baulks were likely intended to keep carts out of the gully and away from the stone garden kerbs, which were originally railed. The concave tops may also have served as small mounting blocks when needed.
