Description

The Red House is a house dating from the early to late 18th century, located on Church Lane in the parish of Kirk Langley. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof, with brick gable stacks and a lateral stack. The house has a brick dentil eaves cornice and is two storeys high with attics, arranged in a T-plan. The late 18th-century east wing has an east elevation with three symmetrical bays. The central doorway, which has two steps leading up to it, features a painted doorcase with fluted pilasters, triglyphs, and an open pediment. The door is a 20th-century half-glazed design, complemented by an 18th-century traceried fanlight. On either side of the door are glazing bar sash windows under painted channelled stone lintels with keyblocks. Above, there are three similar windows, with the central one being narrower.

The early 18th-century west wing has a first-floor brick band and a south elevation with two bays. Both the ground and first floors have two glazing bar sash windows under segmental heads, while the upper floor features two 2-light casement windows. To the right, there is an extruded lean-to bay with a round-arched entrance leading to a recessed porch on the ground floor. The gabled south elevation of the east wing includes a 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped slate roof and glazing bar sashes, along with a single attic window above. Inside, there is an open stick baluster staircase.
