Description
The Swann tomb is a shrine tomb located in the churchyard of St. Peter, dated 1872. It is constructed of stone and features a miniature canopied shrine topped with an octagonal spirelet, which is adorned with a foliage finial and a small cross. The tomb has a square pier in the center, with gables on each side. Each corner is supported by free-standing red stone shafts that have finely-carved foliage capitals. The tomb is situated to the north of the west end of the church, in the middle of a grave plot that has stone edging. The inscriptions commemorate Sarah, the wife of Thomas Swann, who died in 1872, and Thomas Swann, who died in 1884. This tomb is identical to the Wilson tomb located at the Churchyard of St. Nicholas in Stretton and is included for its group value.
