Description
Nos. 14 and 15 on The Green are a pair of model cottages built in the mid-19th century by architect Henry Roberts. Constructed from red brick, they feature stone hood moulds and a Collyweston slate roof with a decorative brick ridge stack. The cottages are two stories high and have two sets of two-light casement windows beneath two gables, along with two three-light windows on the ground floor. Each end of the cottages has a four-panelled door, and there are two-light casements on both floors of the gable ends, with a 20th-century door on the right end. A lean-to structure is located at the rear. Henry Roberts was known for his work in improving housing for the working class, and these cottages are based on one of his designs, which were shared by the Society for Improving the Conditions of the Labouring Classes for use by landowners and others. Other buildings, such as No. 5 Church Road and No. 6 Post Office Lane, are also designed in the same style.
