Description
The Manor House, likely built in the early 17th century, is situated away from the street on Manor Lane in Barleythorpe. Constructed from coursed rubble with a stone tiled roof, it stands two storeys high and was probably originally designed with a two or three unit plan. The plain front features a projecting 18th-century hipped gable on the left, which has large angle quoins and broad sash windows. To the right, there is a full-height projecting gabled porch that includes a four-centred arched doorway with a hoodmould and a three-light stone mullioned window above. Further right, there are two new windows on the ground floor and a three-light stone mullioned gabled dormer above. The rear of the house has three dormers, one of which is long to light the stairs, along with various other new windows. An unusual construction detail is visible on the side elevation, where a wall-plate jetties out from the wall on a lateral timber, supporting the eaves. The house also features moulded stone gable stacks.
