Description

Hempshill Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The external walls are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, with brick detailing, and are rendered on the south and east sides. The roof is slate, with gables and a hipped section, and features a single gable stack, a side wall stack, and two ridge stacks. The south gable has coping stones and kneelers. The house is two storeys high and originally had a four-window front. The west front features a central 20th-century door with an overlight, flanked to the right by a blocked doorway. A 19th-century plain sash window with a small iron balcony is positioned to the right of the door, with a small fixed light to the left. Above, there are three glazing bar sashes and a smaller fixed light to the left. A single-storey addition is visible to the left, incorporating what was once a doorway, now a window, followed by a brick buttress and a two-light window. The north front has an off-centre plank door flanked by glazing bar casements of two and three lights. To the right of the door is another plank door with a glazed porch. Above, there are two glazing bar casements. Group value derives from the building's contribution to the wider historic landscape.
