Description

Elberton House is a house, now converted to flats, built between 1889 and 1890, with an extension in 1911. It was designed by Watson Fothergill of Nottingham for Mr Galimore. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar and blue brick dressings, and has a half-hipped plain tile roof, with single ridge and two gable decorative brick stacks. It sits on a chamfered plinth, features blue brick bands, and has a moulded ashlar first floor sill band. The building is two storeys plus attics and has a three-window range.

The main windows are mainly plain sashes and cross-framed casements. The east-facing entrance front has a central segment-arched opening with polychromatic voussoirs leading to a recessed porch with a half-glazed door. To the right is a canted wooden bay window with four lights and a lean-to roof supported by decorative wooden brackets. To the left is a single sash window, with a matching sash window above, and a cross casement to the right. A projecting octagonal corner tower, four lights over two stages, with an octagonal spire roof and finial is also present. The ground floor of the tower has plain sashes under a tiled hood, while above are cross casements. The left return, to the south, has a hipped, square bay window with three lights, and a cross casement above. Above this is a tile-hung gable with a half-hipped dormer window with three lights. To the left is a single-storey extension with a three-by-one window arrangement. The right return, to the north, features a segment-arched recess between external stacks, and above it, a canted oriel window with four lights. A side window lintel is dated 1890.
