Description
Number 43 and the adjoining boundary wall is a house built around 1875, with a late 20th-century addition at the rear. The building features rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings and a timber-framed first floor with rendered nogging. It has a patterned slate roof with tile cresting and two truncated gable stacks, designed in the Gothic Revival style.
The house has a plinth and decorative bargeboards on the gables. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. In the center, there is a moulded pointed arched doorway with a weatherstripped door. To the left, a gabled wing has a canted ground floor that includes a pointed arched casement with a traceried tympanum, flanked by trefoil-headed lights with corbelling above. The first floor features patterned timber framing and a three-light wooden framed cross casement. To the right, there is a pointed arched casement with shafts and sidelights. Above this, a large raking dormer on ashlar brackets contains a shaped three-light cross casement under a gable.
At the rear, there is an octagonal turret with two stages; the upper stage is timber-framed, has hipped gables, and is topped with a conical lead roof. The adjoining boundary wall to the east is made of rock-faced stone with chamfered ashlar coping and is approximately 10 meters long.
