Description
Nottingham Corporation Waterworks, also known as Castle Works, is a former waterworks depot that has been converted into offices. It was built in 1900 and features red brick with ashlar dressings, along with slate and sheet metal roofs. The building is designed in the Flemish Renaissance Revival style and includes a plinth and sill bands, as well as segment-arched openings with keystones. Most of the windows are 2-light casements.
The structure is two storeys high and consists of 7 by 13 bays, forming an L-shape on a corner site. It has equal returns and an angled corner entrance bay, which is highlighted by shaped gables. The entrance bay features a segment-arched cart opening with wrought-iron gates and small paired windows above. The gable includes a segmental pediment and a coat of arms.
On the left side facing Castle Boulevard, there are six windows and an off-centre door. The gabled end bay has a two-storey bay window on the left, with a door and a single window to the right, and two round-arched windows in the gable. The right side facing Castle Road has five windows on each floor and a gabled end bay with two windows. Beyond this, there is a similar range with seven windows, two of which are blank on the ground floor.
At the rear of the yard, there is a canopy with two bays that once had a glazed roof supported by cast-iron columns. Additionally, there is a wrought-iron area railing outside.
