Description

Summerhouse Cave, located 45 metres south-east of Number 14A, is a man-made ornamental cave dated 1872, created for Alderman Thomas Herbert. The cave is rectangular, measuring approximately 6 metres by 2 metres, and features a central opening on the west side. Its walls are adorned with relief carvings, half-columns, and wall recesses decorated with tufa. In the centre of the cave, there is a font. This cave, along with others in the vicinity, was originally part of the garden features in the grounds of Herbert's house in the Ropewalk. The buildings above are not of special interest.
