Description

Castlegate Chambers is a three-story house, now offices, dating from the early 18th century and restored and converted around 1990. The building is constructed of red brick with a rendered plinth and has a plain tile roof with blue brick coped gables and a rebuilt gable stack. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs along the top. It has a two-window front, with an original off-centre pedimented wooden doorcase containing a six-panel door and a fanlight. To the left of the door is a round-arched sash window with a rubbed brick head, and to the right, a Venetian window, also with a rubbed brick head. Above, there are two similar Venetian windows, and above again, two renewed three-light casements. The top floor features two pedimented dormers. The interior contains a wooden open-well staircase with turned balusters and square newels, along with several 18th-century two-panel doors.
