Description
Collegiate House is a building constructed between 1835 and 1836 by J.G. Weightman. It was originally the headmaster's house with boarding accommodation on the top floor and is designed in a domestic gothic style. The structure features white brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. It consists of two storeys and an attic, with three bays and three gables, the central gable being smaller and topped with pinnacles. The windows are mullion and transom types with flat heads and dripmoulds. The central doorway has a four-centred arch head, also with a drip-mould and a fanlight above. The right-hand return elevation has four bays, with a central projecting section that features a gable. An east wing was added shortly after the building opened.
