Description
The Mickleover War Memorial is a First World War memorial dedicated in 1920, with additions for the Second World War made in 1949. It was sculpted by W Gadsby and Company of Derby and is made of Hopton Wood limestone.
The memorial has a square plan and takes the form of a Latin cross. It features a two-step base, a trapezoidal plinth with a moulded top, and a tall, plain shaft that tapers in rectangular section to a plain cross head. On the south-east side of the plinth, there is a bronze plaque that reads: 'TO THE GLORIOUS DEAD / OF MICKLEOVER / 1914-1919 / [Names]'. A second plaque on the north-west side states: 'TO THE GLORIOUS DEAD / OF MICKLEOVER / 1939-1945 / [Names]'.
The memorial is located on the south side of the churchyard within a square, paved area. This area is further divided around the base of the memorial by kerb stones, which include stone vases inscribed with 'BRITISH LEGION / MICKLEOVER'.
