Description

4 and 4A Ashbourne Road comprise an early 19th century cottage with an earlier core, and a building dating to circa 1630, originally the White Lion Inn. No. 4 has a ground floor that was formerly a shop. The building is constructed of cement, with 2 storeys and a single casement window. It has tile roofing and a modern shop front. No. 4A is of two storeys and has an attic in the gable. It is rendered with brick copings to the gable and eaves, and crudely restored brick stringcourses which are also masked by rendering. It features two modern casement windows and tile roofing. The interior of No. 4A retains a good moulded stone fireplace in a first-floor room, as well as exposed ceiling beams throughout. A large chimney to the rear has a restored brick stack. Both buildings have modern shop fronts.
