Description
The cast iron garden urn in Derby Arboretum dates from around 1850 and was created by R Blore of Derby. It features a square stone base with two steps that supports a broad circular urn on a tall moulded stem adorned with foliate decoration. The urn's broad bowl is decorated with raised patera on the exterior and has a gadrooned lip. Derby Arboretum itself was designed by J C Loudon and established between 1839 and 1840, with an extension in 1845. It was the first park specifically designed for public use, reflecting the Movement for Public Walks. The Arboretum is listed on the Gardens Register at grade II*.
