Description
Rykneld Lodge is a house that was formerly the lodge to Rykneld Hall and later known as Rykneld Hospital. It dates from around 1830 and has undergone refurbishment and alterations in the 20th century. The building features smooth-rendered brickwork beneath an overhanging roof with plain barge boards. It has a square, centrally positioned ridge stack with four clay pots and a Welsh slated roof, which is laid in alternating bands of flat-ended and fish-scale pattern slates.
On the north elevation, the lodge is two storeys high and has three bays, with the central part being an advanced gabled bay. Each bay has stacked ogee-headed window openings with diagonal latticed window frames made of cast iron, which include small opening lights in the lower part of the frame. There is a gabled porch set at the angle of the main range and the advanced bay, featuring lattice trelliswork that encloses two corner doors in ogee-headed openings. These doors are half-glazed and consist of two lights with diagonal intersecting glazing bars. A similar gabled porch is located to the west of the advanced gable, which encloses a single window on the projecting side wall. The interior has not been inspected.
