Description

This is an early 19th-century house and village shop, later converted into two dwellings in 1985. The building is constructed of painted brick with a tiled roof. It is a two-story structure with modillion eaves and a central stack. The windows are 19th-century casements. The High Street elevation has a cambered-headed door centrally positioned, flanked by eight-pane casement windows on either side. This arrangement is mirrored on the first floor. A dog tooth string course runs along the first-floor level, extending across the entire building and continuing onto 1a Green Avenue. The corner of 1a Green Avenue formerly housed the village shop, with simple 19th-century shop windows on the angles either side of the entrance door, and twelve-pane casements above. The building is designated at Grade II for being a substantially intact example of an early 19th-century combined dwelling and shop, and for retaining its architectural integrity with decorative and functional features.
