Description
Nos 3 to 8 Victoria Street, also known as the former Royal Hotel, were built in 1839 and designed by architect R Wallace. This large building features a classical style, with parts constructed in stone and parts in stucco. The stone section is located on Corn Market and consists of four storeys, including an attic storey above the cornice. It has five windows, with the end and center windows breaking forward between paired pilasters over two storeys, adorned with Adam style ornamentation. The Corn Market facade has five windows, including a three-window curved corner on the left side, and two windows facing Victoria Street. Paired pilasters flank the corner, which includes two Greek Ionic half-columns dividing the three windows, and a Royal achievement of arms on the second storey. A plain frieze and cornice run continuously across the entire building. Nos 3 to 8 form a group with Nos 19 to 24 Corn Market.
