Description
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, built in 1833-1834 by Richard Lane of Manchester, is designed in a mock Tudor style using ashlar stone. The building features two-storey center and end blocks, with the center block showcasing a central gable that is flanked by battlemented octagonal towers. Below the gable, there is a Tudor arched window and door. The narrow flanking bays contain tall lancet windows. The end sections are topped with raised parapets that have blank shields and large, two-tier mullioned and transomed windows. Between the end sections, there are one-storey, four-bay sections that feature large two-light windows with Tudor heads. All windows are adorned with intricate leaded glazing.
