Description
Huntwick Lodge, originally a lodge for Nostell Priory and now a house, dates back to 1655, as indicated by the date on the lintel of the door. It features a 19th-century addition, while the attached gate arch and screen walls are likely from the 18th century. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar with a stone slate roof.
The lodge has a rectangular plan formed by two square single units of different builds, both two storeys high and cross-gabled. The east front facing the drive has one bay with a chamfered Tudor-arched doorway, which has raised lettering on the lintel reading "R.T 1655". Above the door is a hoodmould with triple stepped moulding, and there is a blocked window at the first floor with a straight dripmould two courses above it, also featuring similar moulding. Each side of the lodge has one two-light mullioned window on both floors; the lower windows have hoodmoulds, while the upper ones have straight dripmoulds two courses above. The gables on all sides have moulded coping. A chimney is located on the south side at the junction with the addition, which matches the style of the lodge and has another chimney at the corner.
The gate arch, attached to the southeast corner of the lodge, stands two storeys high and features imposts leading to an elliptical-headed arch. It has rectangular piers, each with a coved niche on the south sides, and a moulded cornice above. Sculpted figures of hounds couchant sit atop each pier. The gate has half-height wooden double doors with ornamental strap hinges. Extending east from the gateway is a lower screen wall approximately 10 metres long, which includes a Tudor-arched doorway at the nearer end. To the west of the lodge, there is a garden wall about 15 metres long with weathered coping, ending at a square pier.
