Description
The locks, basin, and docks at Fall Ings Lock on the Calder and Hebble Navigation were built around 1780, following the Act of 9 George III from 1769. The surveyor for the works was John Smeaton. The site features a fairly large elliptical basin and a narrow western channel leading to three small docks, with a lock situated to the east. The walls are constructed of coursed equated stone and topped with large flat copings. There is some patching of brickwork in the lock and outer walls. The lock gates and machinery are complete and functioning.
