Description
421 Denby Dale Road is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building has rendered brick walls and stone-slate roofs, along with brick stacks. It features a two-storey main range and a single-storey range attached at right angles to the rear of the first cell, creating an L-shape.
The east facade shows a three-room layout, with three first-floor windows that still have sixteen-pane Yorkshire sash windows. The ground floor has windows that have been altered to casements. There is a doorway in the first cell to the right of a window and another doorway in the third cell that leads into a workshop, which appears to have always been a separate room, as there are no internal connecting doors. A large stop-chamfered spine beam with ogee stops indicates that the building likely dates from the 17th century. There is a tall stack on the left gable and an axial stack with two coupled flues on the spine wall that separates the second and third cells. The interior was not accessible for inspection, but a stair window at the rear suggests it may contain other interesting features.
