Description
This is a timber frame barn located approximately 40 metres south-east of Hollinhirst Farmhouse. The barn likely dates from the 16th century and was encased in the 18th century. It features coursed rubble and a stone slate roof, which is partially collapsed. The structure consists of five internal bays and has a quoined, central square-headed cart entry. There is a large 18th-century barn projecting to the left, which is not included in this listing. A similar cart entry can be found at the rear, which is covered by 20th-century lightweight additions. Additionally, a lower, later stone farm building projects from the left return, but this is also not included in the listing.
Inside, the barn has six king-post trusses with raking queen struts on posts that are straight-braced to the arcade plates and tie-beams. Short aisle-ties create a narrow aisle on both sides, and the wall plates are still present. Each end frame is integrated into the gable walls.
