Description
Jenkin House is an early 19th-century house, now used as a convalescent home, located on Jenkin Road in Horbury. The front of the house is faced with ashlar, while the sides are of coursed squared stone. It has a stone slate roof. The symmetrical facade has three bays, with a central doorway featuring a moulded architrave and a triangular pediment resting on console brackets. Two-storey bowed fronts extend to each side, with windows divided into three by Tuscan colonnettes. These colonnettes support a cornice and blocking course on each floor. The first-floor centre window has twelve panes, with a moulded architrave; the second-floor windows have six panes. Two lateral chimney stacks are located to the left, and a single stack to the right. A two-storey building to the right is not considered to be of special interest.
At the rear, a central round-arched stair window with glazing bars is visible.
The interior features a staircase with shaped tread soffits and moulded tread ends. It has a ramped moulded handrail, along with a later wooden rail and steel balusters. The ornamental newels are likely later additions. A niche is present at the rear of the room on the right side of the house. Window shutters are also part of the internal features.
