Description
This tomb chest, dating from around 1740, is located approximately 1 metre south of the first bay of the Chapel to the Church of All Saints. It commemorates Esther, the wife of Thomas White, who died in 1740. The tomb chest is made of sandstone and features fielded panel sides with rusticated quoins. It has a rectangular lid with a moulded edge and displays elegant seriffed lettering. Additional inscriptions commemorate Esther, Joseph, and Anne, children of Thomas and Esther, as well as Thomas and Anne, children of James White and his wife Ruth, and James White, who died in 1755. The south side panels were noted to be damaged at the time of the survey in 1986.
