Description

This is a row of three almshouses located on Methley Lane in Rothwell. They date back to the 17th century and have been altered over time; as of 1986, they were unoccupied. The buildings are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and have a roof of graduated stone slates. They have a rectangular, three-unit plan. Each almhouse is single-storey, containing a single cell with a central doorway. There are two-light windows with recessed chamfered mullions on either side of the central doorway. The doorways have chamfered surrounds with flat, Tudor-arched heads. The gables have stone copings with kneelers. An external chimney stack is located at the left gable, and a ridge chimney sits between the central and right-hand ends of the building.
