Description
Nos. 33, 34, and 35 Park Row, which also includes No. 15 Bond Court, is a building society premises and offices constructed in 1892 by the architects Smith and Tweedale for The York City and County Bank, with sculpture work by Mr. Appleyard. The building is designed in a classical style and is situated on a corner site.
It stands three storeys tall, with the Park Row elevation featuring three bays and the Bond Court side having two and a half bays. The corner is splayed, and the ground floor is rusticated, featuring paired round-arch windows with balustered panels below the sills. There is a pedimented doorway at the corner, flanked by polished granite pilasters.
The first and second floors are distinguished by large Corinthian half columns that are fluted near the base, supporting an entablature with a heavy modillion cornice and a decorated frieze, topped by a balustered parapet. The first-floor windows are Venetian, while the second-floor windows are tripartite round arches, both with balusters below the sills and impost moulds. On the right return, there are two Venetian windows, and a narrow entrance bay at the far right features a circular overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
