Description

This is a commercial building with residential accommodation above, dating from circa 1900. It’s constructed of ashlar, with the side and rear rendered, and the roof is not visible. The building occupies a corner site and has a single cell design. It rises three storeys high. The facade features a projecting sill band, entablature, and cornice that extends around the left return. The ground floor has a doorway to the left, flanked by three-light windows articulated by short Ionic pilasters. The doorway is segmental-arched, with a triple keystone and enriched lintel, and features contemporary wrought-iron grilles. The first and second floor windows have channelled wedge lintels, projecting sills, and retain their original 16-pane sashes. An eaves cornice tops the building, followed by a balustraded parapet. Coped gables are present, with end stacks. The left-hand return is in ashlar and features a ground floor segmental bow window with Ionic pilasters and wrought-iron grilles. Above this is a tall, narrow arched stairwell window with voussoirs. Attached to the left is a wrought- and cast-iron railed enclosure. This building has group value.
