Description

Two terraces of back-to-back houses, now comprising 18 dwellings, were built in the mid-19th century and are located on Chapel Street, Chapel Square, and Chapel Terrace in Headingley, Leeds. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared gritstone and rendered brick, with slate roofs. The terraces form an L-shaped layout; Chapel Street has ten first-floor windows, Chapel Terrace has eight, and an elliptical arch connects numbers 10 and 12 Chapel Street to the rear properties (numbers 1-8 Chapel Square). Number 14, the leftmost building on Chapel Street, has a double-fronted facade. All properties have plain front entrances with overlights and small-pane sash windows, some of which have been replaced, along with stone sills and lintels. There is a straight join between numbers 6 and 8 Chapel Street. On Chapel Terrace, doorways to numbers 1 and 5 feature bracketed cornices, and there is a straight join to the right of number 3. The rear elevation, facing Chapel Square, has rendered brick walling matching the front facade detailing. Rendered (possibly brick) stacks are situated forward of the ridge on the Chapel Street side, while stone stacks are present on the Chapel Terrace side. The interiors have not been inspected.
