Description
Number 55, known as Bond Cottage, and Number 56, known as Redvers Cottage, are a pair of estate workers' cottages built in the first quarter of the 19th century, likely designed by Peter Atkinson from York for Edward Lascelles, the 1st Earl of Harewood. The cottages are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof.
Each cottage has six first-floor windows, three of which were added later. The paired doorways, which were originally windows, have two windows on either side, with the central windows that were once doorways. On the first floor, Number 56 retains its original central window, flanked by inserted windows, while Number 55 has its original outer windows with an inserted central window. Both cottages have gable stacks, with the one on the right made of ashlar. The cottages were altered in the mid-20th century.
