Description

This is a former slaughterhouse and butcher's shop, now two dwellings, located on Harewood Harrogate Road. The building dates from the early 19th century and was converted into residential use around 1975. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The two-storey building has six bays, with a plinth at its base. Each bay has a doorway flanked by windows, with two windows above each. The windows have dark-grey concrete lintels, designed to resemble a curved arch (voussoirs), and contain small-paned casements, all dating from around 1975. There is a projecting eaves band. The roof is hipped and has no chimney stacks. A single-storey extension, incorporating a garage and built around 1975, is attached to the right side and is designed to match the original building in appearance. The rear of the building features two ground-floor and four first-floor windows, all with original stone lintels that replicate a curved arch.
