Description
66 and 68 Armley Road is a pair of offices and works entrances built around 1850, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brown brick in a 3:1 English bond pattern, featuring rubbed brick arches and decorative brick and stone details, topped with slate hipped roofs. It stands two storeys high and consists of two sections. The main facade has three bays on the left and a five-window office range on the right.
The central bay of the main range projects forward and is highlighted by a deep moulded modillion cornice and a blocking course. It has keyed round-arched windows with modern frames. The left bay contains two round-arched windows on the ground and first floors, although the ground floor window is blocked. The right bay features a tall round-arched pedestrian entrance with a moulded brick surround on the left and a wide goods entrance on the right. The goods entrance is framed by a moulded stone arch and keystone shaped like a giant bearded head, with sheet-metal panels on the double doors and a semicircular overlight above.
The right range includes a central round-arched entrance flanked by windows that have keystones, an impost band, stone lintels over the upper-floor windows, and a sill band. There is also a two-window return to the right that faces Brandon Street. The interior has not been inspected.
