Description

This is a pair of early 19th-century houses located on Woodhouse Cliff, Woodhouse, Leeds. They are part of a terrace that also includes numbers 1 and 2. The houses are constructed of ashlar and have a slate roof. They are three storeys tall with attics, and each has three windows across the front, with an entrance on the left. Stone steps lead to six-panel doors, which have overlights with glazing bars and are protected by flat hoods supported on shaped brackets. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although some have been altered to four-pane sashes. They have stone sills and shallow lintels. The houses share multi-flue stacks on the roof ridge, one centrally located and another towards the right. The interior has not been inspected. Samuel Smiles, the social reformer and author of 'Self Help', lived at number 3 in 1847.
