Description
Nos. 9 and 10 Blenheim Square are a pair of houses built between 1822 and 1831, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed of red and brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring rubbed brick details and a slate roof. Each house has three storeys above a basement and is three windows wide, with the entrance located to the right. There are steps leading up to the door, which has a fanlight with glazing bars set in a plain stone surround, topped by a keyed brick arch with imposts. The basement windows have segmental arches, while the upper floors have flat brick arches and stone sills, although the window frames have been replaced. A large multi-flue stack is located at the center of the ridge. At the rear, both houses retain their original round-arched stair window with glazing bars and have a shallow bow window with replaced frames. The interior has not been inspected. These houses are part of the first stage of the development of Finsbury Square, as indicated on Fowler's map from 1831, which included the completion of eight houses (Nos. 7-14). An oval garden was created, but the southern side was never built.
