Description

This is a barn located to the north of the granary at Stanks Farm, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The barn consists of seven bays and has a plinth. The main entrance is a segmental-arched cart entry, which is flanked by four arrow-slit ventilators, with two additional ventilators above and two rectangular pitching holes that have dressed lintels. The gables are coped and include kneelers. On the rear, the design is similar but includes a mistal doorway on the left, which has composite jambs and a chamfered surround.

Inside, the barn boasts a fine timbered roof with trusses that have an uncommon and elaborate design. The roof features queen-posts infilled with two St. Andrew's crosses, side angle struts, and is topped with a fish-bone king-post. There are three stop-chamfered purlins on each side, original rafters, and a renewed ridge piece. The hay lofts have been removed.
