Description
The granary at Stanks Farm is a Grade II listed building, constructed in the mid to late 18th century by John Carr for Edwin Lascelles, the 1st Lord Harewood. It is built from punch-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The structure has three storeys and a single-bay main elevation that faces the lane. Notable architectural details include quoins, an ashlar plinth, a projecting first-floor band, and a moulded impost band.
On the first floor, there is a large blind Venetian window set within a semicircular-arched recess, with the voussoirs aligned to the courses. The building is topped with a pyramidal roof that has a wooden lantern and a weathervane. The rear elevation, which faces the farmyard, features a central first-floor taking-in doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround, along with a projecting stone landing supported by a pair of giant modillions. Flanking the doorway are windows with ashlar lintels and projecting sills, which retain 20-pane Yorkshire sashes. To the left of the door is a metal crane, and above the door is an open bullseye window on the top floor. The right-hand return of the building has three semicircular arches, two of which are blind, supported by square piers with impost blocks.
Inside, the ground floor has a ceiling with stop-chamfered spine beams made of softwood and floor joists. This granary is a prominent and fine building within the farm complex.
