Description

Vicarage Chambers, built in 1908, serves as offices and features attached area railings. The building is constructed of red brick and terracotta with a slate roof and wrought-iron railings. It has two storeys and a basement, with five first-floor windows and an added attic storey. The central doorway is a three-centred arch, flanked by walls with a keyblock and finials over pilasters, leading to panelled doors. On either side of the doorway are wide tripartite segmental-arched windows with keyblocks. A heavy dentilled cornice runs along the first-floor level, while the ground-floor walling is made of terracotta tiles featuring a relief design of circles and flowers. The upper-floor windows are framed in architraves with egg-and-dart moulding, aprons, and cornices on console brackets, and above three of these windows are two-light dormers. The railings consist of trefoil pointed bars with scrolls in between and shorter intermediate bars. The name "Vicarage Chambers" is derived from the Vicarage of St Paul's Church, which was built on this site in 1790 by the first minister, Miles Atkinson.
