Description
A farmhouse, dating from circa 1700, and subsequently converted into a pair of cottages in the late 18th century with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of thin-coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings and has stone slate roofs, featuring four chimney stacks. It displays quoins. The south front is rendered and has an irregular two-window facade. The central doorway is set within a chamfered ashlar surround and incorporates a six-panel, part-glazed door. To the left is a 4-light casement window, retaining a central surviving ashlar mullion, and to the right, a single 2-light casement window. Above are a single 4-light and a single 3-light flush mullion window with 20th-century casements. The east front, also rendered, features an off-centre flush ashlar surround to the doorway, including a moulded hood and a part-glazed door. To the left is a single 3-light casement, and beyond a boarded casement. To the right is a single 2-light flush mullion window with plain sashes. Above are a similar 2-light window with glazing bar sashes and single light plain sash. The north front exhibits irregular openings to both the ground floor and upper floors; two 6-light flush mullion weavers' windows are present, now altered to 4-light casements with the central lights blocked. Above these are a single central Venetian window with a blocked central light and glazing bar side lights. The west front has two doorways with flush ashlar surrounds, and between them an altered 2-light window. To the left is a single 3-light flush mullion window, and above are two 2-light flush mullion windows with 20th-century casements. The interior reveals a single exposed timber post and an 18th-century door. The first floor has exposed chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a single stone fire surround, and partly exposed queen post roof trusses.
