Description

This is a pair of cottages located in Honley. They were originally built in 1742, as indicated by a datestone, and possibly rebuilt in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins and have a stone slate roof topped with gable copings on moulded kneelers.

The north-east elevation features two central doorways, one of which has been blocked. Each doorway has a large surround and deep lintel, with a plaque above bearing the initials ā€œD J Sā€ and the date 1742. Flanking the doorways are large, two-light stone mullioned windows. The first floor of each dwelling has a single, four-light stone mullioned window. The south-west elevation mirrors the north-east, with two bays of windows. A small, round arched light, likely a former fire window, is located in the north-west gable. A recent extension has been added to the south-east gable.
