Description
No. 45 Upper Oldfield is a dwelling that dates back to the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed from very deeply coursed millstone grit with reducing courses and features a slate roof adorned with chamfered gable copings on carved kneelers. An ashlar gable stack with a cap is also present. The structure has two storeys and was formerly part of an early group of buildings.
Inside, a 'through-passage' remains. On the south-east elevation, there is an entrance to the through passage, which is framed by quoins, a deep lintel, and chamfered reveals. There is a former 2 or 3-light window that has been replaced with a modern casement. At the east corner, 'wuzzing holes' can be found. On the first floor, there is one 2-light and one 3-light stone mullioned window.
The north-west elevation features another entrance to the through passage and a large 2-light window, along with two 3-light windows on the first floor. The north-east gable has a small lean-to extension that contains a 2-light double chamfered stone mullioned window.
