Description
28 Oldfield is a former pair of dwellings dating from 1773, as indicated by a datestone. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features quoins. It has a stone slate roof with gable copings supported by carved kneelers and two ashlar stacks. The structure is three storeys tall.
On the south-east elevation, there are two doorways, one of which is partially blocked. It also includes one five-light and one three-light stone mullioned window, with the latter having been rebuilt. The first floor has one six-light and one three-light stone mullioned window. The second floor originally had a continuous fourteen-light stone mullioned window, but most of the lights are now blocked, resulting in two three-light windows. There is a stone extension on the south-west side.
The north-west elevation features a right-hand side that breaks forward, providing an entrance to the ground floor and four-light stone mullioned windows on the second floor. To the left, there is a stone plaque with an inscription and the date: A R A, referring to Roger Armitage, dated 1773.
