Description

The Church of St Andrew is a Gothic Revival church built in 1889 by Milnes & France of Bradford. It is constructed of hammer dressed stone and features a pitched slate roof with gable copings. The church has a northwest tower topped with a spire, a five-bay buttressed nave, and a lean-to buttressed aisle to the south that includes a porch and a later vestry. There is a two-bay chancel. The nave is adorned with triple pointed lights in broad arched recesses at the clerestory and single pointed lights at ground floor level. The aisle contains paired pointed lights, while the chancel has paired lancets at a high level. The east window consists of a triple group of lancets with hood moulds and colonnettes in the reveals, and the west window features three pairs of lancets with a circle in the head, all set within a broad arched surround with an oval at the apex. The tower is tall and square with angle buttresses, large blind three-light arched windows on the second tier, and tall octagonal pinnacles with a clock face between them. It also has an octagonal bell chamber and a stone spire. Inside, there is a blind arcade on squat columns on each side, with the aisle currently used for ancillary accommodation. The interior features a well-carved oak altar and reredos, as well as sedilia and a piscina in the south chancel wall.
