Description
Lower Woodlands Farmhouse is an early 17th century L-plan farmhouse that stands two storeys high. It is constructed from roughly coursed gritstone and features large quoins. The roof is made of stone slate. The front has a broad gabled break on the left side, which includes a saddlestone and kneelers. There are five light, chamfered mullion windows with splayed reveals on both floors, complete with drip moulds, and a blocked doorway on the first floor. At the north end, there is an outshut. The return side of the break has a first floor doorway that is accessed by stone steps, topped with a 4-centred chamfered lintel inscribed "Td 1614". The left side of the house has been adapted as an outbuilding or barn. The main range at the front has a former five light window that has been altered to a three light chamfered mullion window in the centre of the first floor, with flanking windows of three lights that have been partially altered with 19th century sashes or casements. There is a chamfered doorway with a massive triangular lintel and a weathered string over the ground floor. The rear also features an outshut, and some exposed beams can be seen inside.
