Description

This is an early 19th century former weaver’s house, later used as houses, with 20th-century alterations. Built of hammer-dressed stone with painted ashlar dressings, it has a pitched stone slate roof with coped gables and two gable stacks. The building is two and three storeys high. The south elevation is symmetrical, featuring a three-storey main block with a two-storey wing to the left. The ground floor has a central doorway with a stone surround, flanked by single four-light stone mullioned windows, and a similar three-light window to the left. The first floor has a central two-light stone mullioned window, flanked by single three-light stone mullioned windows, with a matching three-light window to the left; all are linked by a continuous sill. The second floor features a single, continuous eleven-light stone mullioned window, with one light blocked to the left. The north elevation has the ground floor backfilled against the earth. The first floor shows evidence of a former entrance, now partially blocked. The second floor has two two-light stone mullioned windows, the mullions of which have been removed. The former single house incorporates a single bay of a cottage to its left.
