Description
No. 52 Simon Green Road, also known as 52 Dyke End, is a house that was originally one and a half weaver's cottages, dating from the early to mid 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a pitched stone slate roof, coped gable, and two stone stacks. It is two storeys high, with the rear ground floor built back to earth.
On the south elevation, the ground floor has a doorway to the left, which is covered by a modern glazed porch, and three stone mullioned windows that were originally four-light, two-light, and four-light, although several mullions have been removed. To the right, there is another doorway with a 20th-century glazed door. The first floor features a former 13-light stone mullioned window to the left, with alternate mullions removed and two lights blocked, and to the right, a former 7-light stone mullioned window, with two mullions removed and one light blocked. All openings have flush ashlar surrounds.
Inside, there are three original ground floor fireplaces with plain stone surrounds. The roof retains its original pegged structure with queen post trusses. This building is noted for its group value with the adjoining No. 49 Simon Green Road.
