Description

No. 141 Ravensknowle Road is a building dating from around 1830 to 1840, originally serving as offices for Ravensknowle Park. It appears to predate the current Ravensknowle Hall by a few years. The structure is built of ashlar and features a hipped slate roof, with one storey and a moulded eaves cornice.

The building consists of three blocks linked by a gateway, forming a U-shaped courtyard. The north block has two sash windows with glazing bars in moulded surrounds on the front, and two additional openings, including a doorway, in moulded surrounds facing the courtyard. The gateway, located at the north end of the west side, is believed to be the rear entrance of the Cloth Hall and likely part of Sir John William Ramsden's improvements from 1864. It features paired blocked Tuscan pilasters supporting a full entablature, which is topped with an achievement of arms and foliage scrolls. The gateway includes a round arch with a moulded Gibbs surround and ornamental cast iron gates.

To the south of the gateway is a range with two doors in moulded surrounds, one of which is a stable door that is partially glazed and has glazing bars. The south block contains two doors and three sash windows with glazing bars, all set in moulded surrounds. Additionally, there are two windows in plain raised frames and one paired window in a moulded surround (all with glazing bars) on the front, although these are now obscured by a modern garage.
