Description

Nos 40A, 42, and 44 on Meltham Road are early 19th-century buildings constructed from ashlar stone with a hipped stone slate roof. They are two storeys tall and feature stone brackets supporting the gutter. No 40A has a continuous sill band on the first floor and a rounded corner. The building has eight ranges of sash windows, with two additional windows facing Bentley Street, although one range is blocked. Nos 42 and 44 are distinguished by moulded cornices above their doors. No 42 includes a door leading to a passageway, which is topped by a blind semi-circular fanlight and framed by moulded voussoirs.
