Description

St Helen's Mill House is a late 18th century or early 19th century building located on St Helen's Gate in Almondbury. It is constructed of red brick and features a hipped stone slate roof. The house stands two storeys tall and has a moulded eaves cornice, along with a continuous sill band at the first floor level.

The facade includes four ranges of sash windows with glazing bars, each adorned with ashlar voussoirs and keystones, with the eastern range slightly set back. There are two doors; the main entrance features six moulded panels and a fanlight with glazing bars, framed by a moulded ashlar surround that includes Tuscan half-columns, an entablature, and a segmental pediment. The east door also has six moulded panels and a moulded ashlar frame, with a frieze decorated with paterae and a cornice.

Access to both doors is via seven steps, leading up to a vaulted area that is enclosed by early 19th century cast iron railings with a flame pattern. At the rear of the house, there is a round-arched staircase window with intersected glazing bars, a keystone, and plain imposts. The rear also features two doors, one of which has fielded panelling.
