Description

No. 59 is a mid- to late 18th-century building, originally two houses, forming part of a row. The house on the left is older, with the upper floor of the house on the right dating to the early 19th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with quoins to the right side. The roof is covered with stone slates, featuring gable copings and cut kneelers. A central stack is made of ashlar. The building is arranged over three storeys. The house to the right has a four-light window with outer mullions removed, an entrance with a deep lintel and chamfered surround, and a first-floor window matching the four-light style. The second floor has a single two-light and a three-light 19th-century stone mullioned window. The house on the left has an altered ground floor and two two-light windows to the first and second floors; the first-floor windows have had their mullions removed. The right gable has two altered two-light windows, slightly double chamfered. The rear of the house to the right projects from the row and features a three-light chamfered window, as previously described, to the ground and first floors, and two 19th-century two-light windows to the second floor. It holds group value by virtue of its contribution to the streetscape.
