Description
Fielden House and the attached Lee Bottom Cottage are a house and laithe-house dating from the mid to late 18th century. They are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and feature stone slate roofs. The laithe-house is a two-storey, single-cell cottage with quoins. It has a doorway with a sill tie next to a five-light flat-faced mullioned window, where the central light is slightly larger and was probably originally sashed. The glazing has been altered, and there is a single sash window. The barn includes a cart entry with a segmental arch above which is a Venetian window. The mistal doorway features tie-stones, and there is one stack at the ridge.
Attached to the northern end is a three-bay house with a higher roofline, also two storeys tall, and has raised rusticated quoins. Its doorway has monolithic jambs and features a pulvinated frieze and cornice. On either side of the doorway are large windows with raised surrounds that were formerly sashed but now have modern glazing. The eaves have a band with moulded gutter brackets. The right-hand return wall has a semi-circular arched window with a raised impost and keystone in the attic. The rear of the house features five-light flat-faced mullioned windows, which have been blocked to three lights on the first floor and altered on the ground floor. Inside, the house has a fireplace with a pulvinated lintel and a cyma moulded shelf, along with a contemporary cast-iron range.
